Soleil, the town of Radiant Futures, is on the surface a wealthy university town deep in the mountains. Sustained by the moneyed patrons, the town lives in idyllic bliss disconnected from the harsh realities of regular life.
Lying deep within the French Rhône-Alpes region south of the city of Lyon, Soleil is a town both historic charm and modern convenience. The town is cast in the architectural style of a time long since passed, juxtaposed against modern chain stores and restaurants. It is a town that moves slowly, working in service of the students at Daybreak Academy. It is a town that has a secret.
In truth, Soleil is a town established by the Watchers to support the students of Daybreak Academy. They give their all to support the students, the last hope of humanity. By creating an atmosphere of warmth, of reflection, and of rest, the citizens of Soleil work to give the students of Daybreak opportunities to pause, rest, and be human. And above all, to be reminded of their humanity, and the humanity that they will one day save.
Below are a few locales of interest within the town of Soleil. More locations will be added as warranted, and players are welcome to submit suggestions that will be added if they fit the setting.
TOWN SQUARE
While many modern towns and cities have become decentralized, with gathering places spread across large spaces, Soleil retains the heart of the small towns and villages of times long past. The town square is a stately expanse of marble and statuary where the citizens of Soleil often congregate. Performances are often held in the open-air amphitheater, and the local farmer's market meets weekly within the square. On a regular day, it is usually full of pop-up shops and food stalls, with street performers spread throughout the plaza. In the very center of the square stands a massive sundial, the centerpiece of the entire town.
PERFORMANCE CENTER
The Performance Center of Soleil is a massive indoor auditorium that hosts a wide variety of musical guests. Soleil's status as an extremely rich and affluent town means it has considerable pull in celebrity society, and many of the top performers will play private shows for the citizens of Soleil and students at the Academy. Equipped with the latest in performance technology and with a large, deep stage, the Performance Center can handle just about any show conceivable, from rock acts to musicals to ballets.
COMMERCE PLAZA
The central business area of Soleil, the Commerce Plaza is a collection of major office buildings, modern chain stores, fast food restaurants, and a large mall, a popular haunt for many students. The Commerce Plaza is usually a bustling place, with office workers coming and going and filled to the brim with students outside of class. One can find just about any common material good in the Commerce Plaza, and it is also the primary employer of students looking to earn a bit of extra spending money with a part-time job.
CENTRE TROIS
Centre Trois is a mall and shopping center located in the heart of the Commerce Plaza. It hosts a majority of the trendier international chains and is ultimately somewhat unremarkable as far as malls are concerned. It is of decent size and a common hang-out for students and the presence of familiar shops is often seen as somewhat comforting. The food court in particular is known for having a wide array of international fast food chains for patrons who aren't overly concerned with things such as taste and healthiness.
DOWNTOWN SOLEIL
A far cry from the towering skyscrapers of major cities, the downtown area of Soleil is a lot of storefronts in charming medieval french architecture. With wide boulevards sweeping outward from the Town Square, the downtown area is a constant bustle of activity, and completely untouched by modern chain stores, every single store and restaurant is locally owned and supplied.
MUSEUM OF SUPERNATURAL HISTORY
The Museum of Supernatural History is an enormous marble-clad building that was formerly the governor's chateaux but has now been converted into a museum chronicling the operations of the Watchers and the impact of the Outlands and Secret Societies on humanity throughout history. The most comprehensive history of the supernatural and its impact on mankind, it has a wealth of exhibits chronicling the history and lineage of the Mages, the rise and fall of Vampire and Werewolf clans, great battles between daemons, angels, dragons, and other great beings. The museum is maintained by public funds and admission is free.
CAFE DE LA LUNE
Cafe de la Lune is a renowned Cafe, popular among students and lifelong residents alike. With a wide array of both local and imported coffee beans and teas, Cafe de la Lune has a wide selection of drinks, and, more importantly, some of the strongest caffeinated beverages around.
HONEY AND SUGAR PATISSERIE
Among the most popular bakeries in Soleil, Honey and Sugar uses rich natural ingredients grown locally to make fresh breads, pastries, and confections. Honey and Sugar has a range of products in a variety of prices, making it a prime spot for student and resident alike.
HOG'S SWILL TAVERN
An extremely popular bar among the students but not so much among the locals, Hog's Swill Tavern is the very definition of a dive bar. The building is ramshackle and tucked in a corner away from prying eyes and the alcohol is cheap and plentiful. No local would be caught dead drinking here. It's probably the only place in France one can find American "Lite" beer, although referring to it as beer in the presence of the locals will earn their immediate ire.
CHEVALIER GALLANT
A medieval-style tavern and inn, Chevalier Gallant is a popular local bar and hostel frequented by many locals. With wines from all over France and beers imported from Germany, the drinks it offers are unmatched. This fare is paired with a host of savory dishes, allowing a weary traveler or hungry laborer to fill their belly and refresh their spirits.
JEAN-RENAUD BISTRO
Jean-Renaud, a highly accomplished chef and something of a local celebrity, owns an expansive restaurant in the heart of downtown Soleil. Able to seat over fifty families, the Bistro serves a wide variety of authentic French cuisine, as well as some Italian favorites that have crept onto the menu. The Bistro is among the more expensive restaurants, but is said to be some of the best food in France.
RADIANT CARNIVAL
The Radiant Carnival is a large amusement and water park on the west end of Soleil, near the town's outskirts. The amusement park itself is open year-round, while the water park is only open during the summer months. The park is respectable in size and one of the main sources of tourist revenue from Outland and Secret Society tourists who can enjoy the amenities without having to hide their true nature. With a number of rides, water slides, and carnival attractions, the Radiant Carnival is a popular date spot for students, as well as a popular attraction for those with small children. While it does employ Daybreak students, it typically only accepts University-level students - the clientele tends to make the standard retail abuse significantly more actively painful.
OLD PETSHOP
Tucked away in downtown Soleil is a mysterious pet shop that boasts an impressive array of animals, all perfectly cared for and glowing with health. It's said that the mysterious personage who runs it can procure any pet you desire - for the right price.
NEW ATTRACTION
While the town of Soleil is not large, it still holds many secrets and points of interest, and students are always turning up new points of interest. If you'd like to add a shop, restaurant, or amenity you think would fit Soleil, fill out the form below and we will add it if appropriate. If it doesn't quite fit, the mod team may work with you to flesh out the concept to be more fitting to Soleil.

Name: Charmed
Description: Located in downtown Soleil is an unassuming little brick shop, nestled into the row of storefronts. A cheerful, pale green and gold sign hangs over the door reading "Charmed". Predictably, the shop specializes in charms and magical supplies. Anything from lucky charms to enchanted jewelry to more modern novelties like imbued cellphone cases can be bought here. The woman who runs the shop is usually out on Saturdays, but her niece takes over in her absence.
